Putting Makeup on the Fat Boy

I wasn’t sure if we were going to cover YA books, since there are a slew of resources out there for diversity in terms of Young Adult. However, I had the joy of reading Bill Wright’s Putting Makeup on the Fat Boy, which features a confident young gay Latino guy who is busy trying to be the “man of the house” while at the same time following his ambitions to become a superstar makeup artist at the Macy’s makeup counter, all while still in high school!

It’s a light fun read that puts a gay character central stage with issues anyone can relate to: horrible bosses, family drama, and being in love with someone you can’t have.
