Author: Gabrielle Zevin
I picked this book up after someone recommended it to me, not knowing that the main character was a person of colour! Bookshop owner A.J Fikry is indeed South Asian, and his life changes drastically when someone leaves a biracial African-American baby in his store. Because the story is set in a bookshop, the novel is quite literary and will definitely appeal to book lovers. It’s also an easy read, so would be a good recommendation in general without asking the reader to have to do too much work.
Author Gabrielle Zevin is herself of mixed race ancestry (Russian/Jewish/Korean).
