The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

This book keeps getting challenged in libraries across North America. Why? Because it mentions masturbation? It’s a YA book. That’s what YA people do. Some people think it’s anti-Christian.

Well, I decided to see what all the fuss was about and really, what I found, was a heartwarming story of an American Indian youth trying to make his way off a reservation and attend a better school. A friend of mine read this at the same time as me and we both agreed that we pretty much cried our hearts out for the main character, who just wanted a better life but had to deal with racism and poverty and his own personal limitations physically and mentally.

Littered throughout are drawings and cartoons as well as other lighter elements of comic relief so that the novel isn’t completely a cry-fest. A good read! This book is RAD!
