Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl

I love the TV show Portlandia, so I was excited to pick up Carrie Brownstein’s autobiography, Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl. It’s a very quick and easy read. I had no idea that Carrie identified as lesbian, and that her own father came out as gay as well. She talks a lot about the punk scene in the Pacific Northwest, including Vancouver, as she was lead singer of the band Sleater Kinney. I remember Sleater Kinney performing around Vancouver, but since punk music isn’t really my thing, I never went to see them. Who knew that years later I’d be a total fanboy of Carrie due to her Portlandia characters!
