Have you read Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides? It’s like one of my top 10 favourite books. It won the Pulitzer Prize, as well. I just think it’s written absolutely beautifully. The language, the imagery, the storyline, all of it. It centers around an intersex character who is from an immigrant Greek family. It has definitely received criticism from people for its portrayal of an intersex character. If you’re looking for a more authentic book about the trans experience or features a character who just happens to be trans, this may not be the best book to begin with.
However, if you want a good book with stellar writing and a compelling plot, then give Middlesex a try, but be aware of the flaws in its depiction of an intersex character.
