I was really excited to get into this book as it’s an official selection for the New York Public Library’s book club. Tanwi Nandini Islam’s novel Bright Lines takes you from Brooklyn to Bangladesh, but the journey isn’t an easy nor a fast one. I actually never got there. I ended up putting the book down as it was a bit slow for my liking. What I did appreciate about the book though were the multitude of diverse characters that help carry the story, including South Asian, Muslim, lesbian, and Black characters.
It’s great to have a new voice adding to the literary landscape, so am looking forward to what’s to come from Tanwi Nandini Islam.
