Wonders of the Invisible World

In Christopher Barzak’s YA novel Wonders of the Invisible World, we are introduced to a story infused with magic realism. The main character Aidan, has special powers. It’s not quite psychic, but it does involve being able to go into another dimension of sorts. Plus a good dose of voyeuristic time travel. When his old childhood friend Jarrod comes back to town, things begin to unravel – especially when the two boys start up a relationship with one another!

The gay love story aspect is almost secondary and not a huge focal point. What will keep you turning the page is the mysterious skeletons hidden in his family’s closet, that are just bursting to come out.
