This offering from Canadian award-winning author Joseph Boyden is a morsel of a read, smaller than a novella, but bigger than the story that the pages contain. It is based on the true story of a 12 year-old Indigenous boy who runs away from residential school. It is tragic and an important read. Chanie Wenjack was renamed Charlie by the white teachers at the residential school. Residential schools are one of Canada’s biggest dark spots in history.
