I think you might enjoy this lovely little novel. Jacqueline Woodson’s Another Brooklyn is poetic prose – which is perfect for April’s National Poetry month, am I right? It’s about four African American girls growing up in Brooklyn during the 1970s. It’s a beautiful ode to friendship and coming-of-age and captures all the turmoil and sadness that can go along with that, but also the memories and nostalgia that shape us on our journey to adulthood.
Also, it’s a pretty quick read too!
